These words of thanks for the Cary Community Foundation's support of the WeBuildPeople Campaign at the Cary Family YMCA were delivered personally
by Diane Hillsgrove, Cary Family YMCA Branch Director, and Mary Kamm, YMCA Board member and volunteer.Hillsgrove reported that Cary Community Foundation endowments for the last 2 years have made it possible for 3 children to attend the Adams Elementary year round Y-Learning program.
Y-Learning is a tutoring program for children who are at risk of performing below grade level or who need extra homework assistance. Student development is tracked through close contact with each participant's school to ensure academic success. Volunteers and staff help children with daily homework assignments, study habits, and offer reading comprehension practice to ensure participants are at or above grade level.
Hillsgrove and Kamm also thanked the Cary Community Foundation for its role in placing 44 computers in the homes of children in the YMCA'a Outreach programs.
By using WeBuildPeople donations and partnering with the Cary Community Foundation, the Cary Rotary, and Purple Elephant Computer Factory for Kids , computers were delivered to children's homes. The project included a workshop to teach children and their parents how to use the computers.
"It is wonderful to see different community organizations working together to make our community a better place for all," said Mary Kamm..
Sheila Ogle, President of the Cary Community Foundation thanked Diane Hillsgrove and Mary Kamm for reporting back to the Foundation. "It is so rewarding for us to hear how Foundation funds are working to support programs that so positively impact the people in our community. While these projects represent only 2 of the 27 grants given by the Foundation last year, these programs certainly represent our interest in supporting programs that benefit people who are right here in our town."
