The Sheila and Carroll Ogle Family Fund
Our home on Academy Street was 100 years old in 1993. We wanted to share this milestone with our town. We did, with a community wide birthday party. Over 160 people joined us to celebrate. This is our sense of Cary, our wonderful hometown, which has kept its feeling of community, even as it has grown to be a vibrant home for many people from around the world.
Setting up our family fund with The Cary Community Foundation is a way for us to leave our very personal legacy to both our family and the town we cherish. It is one of the most exciting things that we did in 2008. Our fund will continue to breathe life into our passion for the arts and our love of our downtown neighborhood for generations to come. Initially we will make grants each year from this endowment. Then our daughter will award the grants for the purpose we have chosen. Of course we will involve our grandson in making the grants too. It will help him learn about giving to the community, for one day he will direct how the grants will be awarded. What better tradition can a family bestow than to share a passion for caring?
The focus of our grants will be arts and historic preservation in downtown Cary. It may be preserving a historic property, it may be special performances in a community performing arts center or it may even be visual art. Each year we will be able to bring an additional measure of this quality of life to our friends and neighbors. Here in our hometown, we are inviting you to join us in celebrating our home each year, at the “party” our grants will provide for many, many years to come.
